Long Yu, music director & conductor
Yuja Wang, piano
The oldest of Asia's orchestras, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 130th anniversary with a U.S. tour that commences in the final concert of Carnegie Hall's China Festival and ends in California. The Orchestra appears in Berkeley with pianist Yuja Wang, whose arrival "on the musical scene is an exhilarating and unnerving development. To listen to her in action is to re-examine whatever assumptions you may have had about how well the piano can actually be played," says the San Francisco Chronicle.
Program: Mussorgsky/Prelude to Khovantchina, "Dawn on the Moscow River;" Rachmaninoff/Piano Concerto No. 2; Qigang Chen/Iris dévoileé
