A musician of magisterial interpretive and technical prowess, Garrick Ohlsson commands an enormous repertoire, which ranges over the entire piano literature. Performing an all-Chopin program at Cal Performances, he shines particularly in the music of this composer, and 2010 will see several highly anticipated Ohlsson-Chopin projects, including four recitals at Lincoln Center and a documentary directed by Larry Weinstein, who made the award-winning Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould. Ohlsson honed his craft as a student of the late Claudio Arrau, and he has been widely praised for his "flawless precision and delicacy, driven by an astute insight" (Globe & Mail, Toronto).
Program: Chopin/Impromptu in F-sharp Major, Op. 36; Ballade in A-flat Major, Op. 47; Fantasy in F Minor, Op. 49; Two Nocturnes, Op. 27 (No. 1 in C-sharp Minor and No. 2 in D-flat Major); Scherzo in C-sharp Minor, Op. 39; Twenty-four Preludes, Op. 28
Funded by the Koret Foundation, this performance is part of
Cal Performances' 2009-10 Koret Recital Series, which brings world-class artists to our community.
